- The SEC has a record 10 teams ranked. Previous record was 8, also by the SEC in 2011, 2013, 2014, and the 2015 preseason poll.
- After some further research, having all teams from one division (SEC West) ranked appears to be a first as well.
- According to my records, the percent of teams ranked by the SEC (71.4) has been matched or topped twice: 75.0 (6/8) by the Big 8 in the 11/16/1976 poll, and 71.4 (5/7) by the SWC in the 9/23/1957 poll.
- Having 6 teams or more ranked has happened 280 times, 7 or more 52 times, 8 or more 10 times
