- Consecutive preseason appearance streaks for Florida State (1983-2007) and Michigan (1986-2007) have ended. Ohio State now owns the longest streak at 20 (1989-2008).

- Hawaii's weekly Top 25 streak ends at 16.
- BC's weekly Top 25 streak ends at 14.
- USC's weekly Top 25 streak reaches 100.
- Pittsburgh makes first appearance in the Top 25 since the 2005 preseason poll (47 polls).
- Clemson makes first appearance in Top 10 since 10/22/2006 (23 polls).
- Auburn makes first appearance in Top 10 since the 2006 final poll (16 polls).
- Georgia makes first appearance at #1 since 12/6/1982 (415 polls).
